Norris Edges Out Oscar Piastri in Brazilian Practice Session
The British driver has outscored Oscar Piastri at all of the previous five race weekends.
Lando Norris just pipped fellow driver and title rival Oscar Piastri for the quickest lap in the dying seconds of practice at the Brazilian Grand Prix.
Norris, who grabbed the championship lead from Piastri by one point after taking the win in the Mexican Grand Prix recently, topped the Australian by a tiny margin of 0.023secs.
Before then, Piastri had been the quickest of the McLaren pair during the running before sprint qualifying due at 18:30 GMT.
The Red Bull star, the sole remaining contender in the championship fight, sitting with a 36-point deficit behind Norris, was classified in P17 as his team followed a alternative strategy.
His teammate the Japanese driver was the sole competitor to have an incident, if briefly, when he rotated at corner four early in the session.
The Japanese slid over the curbs on exit before rotating through the escape zone, and was lucky to avoid just a slight brush of the wall.
Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also had a spin, at the conclusion of the session, spinning around through the fast downhill Mergulho corner before the last turn on to the start-finish straight.
The veteran finished practice in P19, one place behind team-mate the Monegasque driver.
The McLaren pair were far ahead of the remaining drivers, with the German's Sauber third fastest, 0.619 seconds off Piastri's best.
Aston Martin's Fernando Alonso was fourth quickest, with Sauber's Bortoleto fifth from the Mercedes of George Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
