Around fifty cars have been marked with what seems to be blood from a person in the Germany's city of Hanau close to Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Automobiles, exterior walls and postboxes were defaced, sometimes with prohibited symbols, they stated in a release.
Law enforcement state they were contacted during the night on Wednesday evening, when a man discovered that a automobile in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been smeared with a reddish-hued substance.
The liquid had been applied in the shape of a banned symbol, they added.
Police then located numerous other marked vehicles and residential walls in the surrounding area.
These symbols are banned in Germany under regulations prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Law enforcement state initial examinations indicate the liquid was probably blood from a person.
"At present there remains no indication as to its source; officials are not yet cognizant of any harm in relation with the incident," they added.
Local authorities stated they were working "to solve the case" and have appealed to the community for information.
An important political figure said the incident left him without words and had to be solved quickly.
"This incident affects the center of Hanau and revives the wounds of the right-wing violent incident half a decade ago," he wrote on a platform, mentioning the death of nine individuals by a gunman targeting individuals of immigrant origin in 2020.
