2K Hires Popular Battle Royale Lead to Rescue Troubled Hero Shooter Project Ethos

2K Games has appointed a seasoned producer from the creators of Apex Legends to oversee the development team at their internal studio, which is currently crafting the upcoming third-person action-packed title known as this innovative game.

Leadership Transition Follows Poor Feedback

The new appointee takes on the leadership position at the development studio following the dismissal of previous head Michael Condrey, who was removed from his post due to Project Ethos' lackluster unveiling last fall.

Recently, 2K president David Ismailer updated staff about this strategic move through an official communication, which emphasized that playtesting had indicated the necessity for a distinct direction.

The president stated that the developers is now refining Project Ethos with a refreshed focus, aiming to better meet gamer demands.

Trend of Strategic Recruitment

The news echoes a comparable move taken by the publisher in August, when they hired an industry veteran from the Diablo team to contribute to the BioShock development group.

Here is the entire text from the president's communication:

Hello Everyone—

I understand you all just completed your town hall - I trust you’re as thrilled as I am with the positive developments. Last time I shared you all a message, I mentioned the following: “I believe in this group. You all are some of the most dedicated and creative designers we have had the opportunity to collaborate with - and we’re eager for that collaboration to continue.”

With your dedication and versatility, particularly over the last year, you repeatedly show that.

The player input from last fall’s the game playtest was enlightening. It confirmed the potential of a roguelike shooter but told us we still had improvements to make. It revealed the requirement for a sharper identity.

It’s been inspiring to see how far you’ve advanced. You took the input to consideration and reimagined the title with a renewed goal - one that’s poised to fulfill its ambition to our players.

Our confidence in this project strengthens every day. To further the outstanding progress you’ve made, I’m excited to introduce Ben Brinkman as the latest Lead of 31st Union. After a period of discussions, Ben comes aboard us on next week.

Ben’s guidance and expertise in the PVP shooter space is considerable, having devoted the last 15 years creating and leading some of the most well-known series in the industry, for example the acclaimed shooter, and most recently, Apex Legends.

Please join me in greeting Ben next week. We are all looking forward to continue seeing the evolution of Project ETHOS in the weeks to follow.

The President
